About
Sophia Brattoli is a trombonist and music educator currently based in Illinois. They are currently working towards their Bachelor’s of Music Education degree at Illinois State University and student teaching in the south suburbs of Chicago. They have served as principal trombone of the ISU Wind Symphony, ISU Symphony Orchestra, ISU Jazz Ensemble, ISU Trombone Choir, and Soldier’s Tale Ensemble. Sophia currently serves as the bass trombonist of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra.
Outside of Illinois State, Sophia has performed with the Castle Brass Quintet, Funk Sauce Brass Band, Park ‘n’ Bark Brass Band, Heartland Jazz Orchestra, Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra, and the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps. They have attended the Mostly Modern Festival, DC Trombone Workshop, and spent a summer working and studying at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Sophia’s primary trombone teacher is Dr. Mark Babbitt with additional studies with Dr. Andy Rummel, Dr. Shawn McNamara, Chris Bayer, John Faieta, Andy Chappell, Pete Ellefson, Corey Sansolo, Greg Hammond, and Natalie Mannix. Sophia studies wind conducting with Dr. Tony Marinello.
In addition to being an active performer and educator, Sophia maintains an active social media presence through their instagram account, @sophtrb, where they have over 16,000 followers. Sophia is an amateur video editor and social media strategist who has created and managed social media content for the ISU School of Music, ISU Bands, Mostly Modern Festival, and DC Trombone Workshop.
